Converting icons to images or assets

#1

Hope this is a simple question, as I’m new to balsamiq.

How do I convert an icon in the icon library to an image or asset?

Any help is appreciated.

@ggh Just out of curiosity, why do you want the icons as images instead of icon objects? You can add the icons to your mockup by clicking on the Icon button and then dragging the icon to your mockup.

If you need the icons as images then I can think of two ways. The first is use the old Font Awesome for Balsamiq icon pack. It can be downloaded at,

https://github.com/djfpaagman/font-awesome-balsamiq/archive/4.3.0.zip

The second is to use the following steps,

  1. Add the icon to your mockup.
  2. Select the icon.
  3. Go to the edit menu and select copy as image or use the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+C.
  4. Open paint.
  5. Paste the icon to paint using Ctrl+V and then copy it again with Ctrl+C.
  6. Go back to your mockup and paste it using Ctrl+V.

The steps will be different if you are on Mac. I would think the copy as image and paste in Mockups would work, but it just pastes it as an icon still. Pasting it into paint and back again will turn it into an image and add it to your assets.

Let me know if you have any questions or run into any problems.
