I love Balsamiq, it really is a great platform and gets better every time. My biggest gripe with the platform that has been present since ‘1’ is that the canvas is so limited. A lot of the wireframes I create tend to be quite long pages. I keep to one wireframe per canvas — which results in a lot of wasted x-space.
I would really like either:
1. a longer canvas
2. the ability to ‘continue my wireframe’ next to my original. Emulating a similar function to how text boxes word in inDesign. IE: text overflows container, I click a symbol that then created a new textbox that continues until all text is done. (I can do this manually but obviously I would like the export to show the complete length of the wireframe when it is connected.
Hopefully that made sense. I really want more room.
Sorry about this limitation. We’re using the maximum canvas that Adobe AIR apps allow in the current version. Our plans to leave this platform will allow for larger canvases.
Maybe for the moment you could try using a breakline to indicate continuation. This is something that designers do in wireframe specs usually? The Rectangle and H. Rule controls have breakline properties.
Hey @Seneka_Gomez, sorry for the lack of news on this.
We are going to look into enlarging the canvas after we finish the native (non-adobe air/flash) versions of the app. We are hoping to go into a beta for web version this summer!
Sorry for any headaches this causes you in the interim. The bigger canvas is coming!
+1, limited canvas is REALLY annoying when you use the tool for rapid prototyping. If you use iPad size in points (1024*768), you’ll run out of space REALLY quickly.
I downloaded yesterday the latest release of the desktop app, the February 2019 version of Balsamiq 3 and I’m not seeing a 10k x10k canvas or an infinite canvas. Am I missing something?
Hello @Brendan The 10k x 10k canvas size is a great improvement, thanks! But I often need more space to work… when I want to present side by side different steps of a process or when I want to show different platforms (mobile, tablet, desktop) for instance. Am I the only one dreaming of an infinite canvas that would adjust automatically with its content? Thanks for reading!
