Feature Request: Link to Symbol as Overlay

#1

It would be really cool if those of that have an extensive library of symbols could like directly to them within a Mock Up.

Example: I have a base mock up of a CRM. I have a symbol created for a popup form that appears in various sections of the CRM. Instead of create a base page then a page with the base and the popup on top I could link directly to the symbol.

I am sure I made it sound simpler then it is to develop but hey figured it was worth an ask.

Hi again @sonndamo,

Thanks for detailing your need on this one.

The use case you are describing should actually be easier to achieve thanks to some recent improvements we added:

  • From your base mockup, select the specific control that you want want to link to the popup window and select “Link to a New Duplicate of This Mockup” from the property inspector
  • You will then only need to add your popup symbol

Also, we recently added a “Back” Meta-Link which will allow you to create a link that goes to the previous page visited while in Full Screen (very useful if the popup window can be triggered from different pages).

Please let me know if that works for you, and thanks again for sharing your need with us today!

Hey Virgin,
THanks for all the replies. This will definitely help. But I still think to a symbol presence as an overlay is easier to manage. Let me give you and example.

In our crm we are designing we have an attachments window that is available in 4 different screens. Since we need to link to a specific mock, we need to have 4 variants of the same screen just to show the attachment window. If we could some how link directly the symbol and over lay the originating mock this would save a lot of dummy mocks to demo the transition to frequently used elements.

Thanks for the additional informations @sonndamo.

While I totally see you point here, our little tool has low interactivity on purpose and we try to keep it as easy-to-use as possible. More details about this here: https://blogs.balsamiq.com/ux/2011/06/17/why-we-arent-doing-interaction/

On the other hand, if you are looking for more prototyping in your workflow, these pages should help you to determine if our little software is the best fit for you and will point you in the right direction in case you need something different:
