Import SVG Icons

I see that SVG is not among the image types that can be imported as assets. But, I saw elsewhere that Balsamiq uses SVG internally for rendering. Are there plans to allow us to import SVG assets?

Thanks!

Hi @pixelpshr,

Thanks for the post. It’s true that, for Balsamiq Wireframes, we’re now using vectors internally for controls but, for now, we’re going to continue to support only GIF, JPG and PNG for image importing.

As with all feature requests, we’re tracking requests for support of SVG import and I have gone ahead and added your vote in support. Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks for the quick response!
I certainly do understand the decision to stick with raster objects as image assets. I’m sure that a poorly formed SVG file could wreak havoc on the renderer.

+1 Yes Please! If you implement SVG import support then we can stop complaining about Font Awesome not being up to date! (e.g. I’m looking for the fa-crown icon, not in Balsamiq Desktop at the moment).

+1 for SVG import ! This will effectively make the looong awaited update of FontAwesome not-so-important anymore.

++++++ 1 for SVG import. Quite surprised this feature unsupported still by now, although this request was raised in 2019…

+1 for SVG import. Besides being a nice addition to the assets panel, this would also help greatly for when sharing the mockups and wireframes with developers so they have the assets they need to transform it into real code.

At the moment I have to show the illustration/icon in png in Balsamiq and then store and attach the SVG separately. These attachment often get lost in a project folder

Hi @edevantie and thanks for sharing your need.

I’ve added your vote for this request, but I wanted to mention that you can already store SVG assets to your BMPR file if needed. More details here.

Hello everybody,

We’ve been discussing this internally and we’re trying to identify whether the update to Font Awesome 6 and the significantly-increased Icon library addresses the SVG issue for you or whether you still need the ability to import either:

  • Additional SVG icons
  • SVG format images more generally

If you have a moment, we’d love to hear where you stand on the issue today. Thanks!

SVG import continue to be important because of icon/assets library from clients.

And, if I import SVG icons/assets I would be able to resize them without worry about.
With just PNG I need to convert all icons I’ve received and need to import them to balsamiq always in the greater size I will need to use them.
